When ultrasonic waves act on a liquid, they generate a "cavitation effect." The collapse of each bubble in the liquid produces an extremely powerful shockwave, equivalent to the instantaneous generation of temperatures reaching several hundred degrees Celsius and pressures as high as thousands of atmospheres. This shockwave can break down insoluble contaminants, dispersing them into the solution, thereby achieving the cleaning and flushing of both the internal and external surfaces of the workpiece.
